Yes, this is a great effect. It uses one of the oldest techniques in card magic. The reason I recommend that everyone read the old magic books is that there are so many old techniques that are rarely used today.

Either royal road to card magic or expert card technique has something like this effect in it. I think its royal road. Even if it's not buy it anyway this book is worth every penny of the 7 bucks I spent on it.

Right here. If you don't know what it means, Google it up! (Maybe add "cards" or "gambling" to the search, to filter unwanted results).
Also remember that Oz is the one that puts the deck in the box/closes the flap. Those two things are really all there is to the effect.

I love a lot of the modern gaffs and gimmicks but it is the old 'simple, tried and true' methods that continue to amaze.
