I find it rather amazing how someone can take an effect that has already been published, add one small change to the effect, and then BAM you've got yourself an effect you can call your own and then reap the rewards.
The first time I saw Clutch performed I immediately started going through some of my magic books, and in Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic I saw the effect entitled "The Card Case Escape" and another effect taught by Darwin Ortiz, but I cannot remember the name of his version. I'm not trying to be negative here, in fact I feel the opposite. I think I'll start going through some of my older magic books and see if there are any effects where I can make a small change or two and see how well it is perceived from my general audience. |

I think you make a good point - many of the 'new' tricks today are just variations of the old tried and true tricks of yesterday. Yes, I agree that the old magic books such as Mark Wilson's book contains a wealth of information for the magician of today.

old school magic rocks! improving an effect is exeptional talent, still with the older methods used and improving it, magician's get to know the methods used in doing the trick, another sample is the Anniversary Waltz then was later improved by Oz Perlman and called it True Love and was also improved by Justin Miller in Autograph.
