I didn't really know where else to post this, I'm kinda new to this site.
Anyway, if anyone's seen the Brad Christian Crash Course 2 : Ambitious Card, then you'll know that there is lots of different ways to present the ambitious card. I guess this is kind of a challenge, but I want to see people's different patters on the trick. So here's the deal, 1) There are 6 tricks that you must use, and make up an original patter for it. The tricks go as shown. TOP CARD LIFT The top card is turned over so it is face up, and when the ambitious card is shown and placed on top, it is double lifted over. The duplicate on top is sent into the middle, and the AC reappears at the top. MARLO TILT/LE PAUL BLUFF PASS You can use either for this stage. Basically the card is lost in the deck because of one of these, yet reappears back at the top. WRONG DECK This doesn't really have a name, but you hand the spectator half the deck, and place their 'supposed' card into your half. It is actually on the top of their deck without them realising, for a good reveal. MARLO TILT - ERDNASE CHANGE You use the Marlo tilt, this time changing the card into the AC using the Erdnase change. If you don't know what the Erdnase is, youtube is the place to be, Alex Hess did a great interpretation of it, as is it on the DVD, but Alex Hess's is better. TENKAI APPEAR The card is hidden behind your thumb through a control and palm, or whatever you want, and you make the card reappear at the top of the deck. BROWIE POP-UP MOVE You bend the card, place it into the middle and then lose it in the deck, you click your fingers, and it pops right back up to the top, with the bend and all, as if out of thin air. Okay, so you tell me your patter. Who knows, in thinking about it, you may get a better ACR patter yourself. //merged// I'll give you an example with the Houdini routine, or my version of the Houdini routine. So you get them to pick a card and sign it with their name and Houdini. INTRO "Now this card here, he has just become Houdini. And if we take a look now, you'll soon see why." TOP CARD LIFT "Okay, so I'll take your card and place it onto the deck. It's gonna go deep into the middle, you'd say that's the middle? Well it'll go about there. Do you watch Houdini? See the thing about it is, you can never keep Houdini trapped for too long." Turn over and reveal the top card. Remember to build suspense if you ever use this one - I did it a bit fast when I wrote it. LE PAUL BLUFF PASS "So I'm gonna let you pick where to place it, and you can place it right there. I'll riffle through, you tell me when to stop. Right there? Okay, just place it in there. Place the rest on top ... Okay. So. You placed Houdini in yourself. But like I said before, no matter where you put him ... " REVEAL "He always escapes." WRONG DECK "Okay so we'll split the deck into half and place Houdini into deck X. You hold this side (deck Y). So we do the magic wave, the click to signal him to come out, and turn over ... Oh, he's not there." SUSPENSE, look at the floor for this part. "But what if ... cause see Houdini's a magician aswell, what if ... he decided that the trick would be so much more effective, if he went to your deck? Could you turn over the top card ... ah there he is." ERDNASE CHANGE "Okay, so we'll re-replace Houdini into the deck, face up this time, so you can see this nice and slow. And rather than tilting my hand over and telling Houdini to escape from the middle to the top, how's about I show you the mechanics? Let's put it in face up somewhere, so here's what happens, we just give ... this whole deck a rub ... and it changes into Houdini." TENKAI APPEAR For this part, you'll palm it off the top while they're not looking. "So if we burn him, hold on. Where'd he go?" Mimic looking around, ask them to look under their chair etc. "I'm sorry sometimes he does magic of his own. Wait but I think I can resummon him to the top." Through all the searching you should now have it in the Tenkai position. "If I just ... one ... two ... three ... " APPEAR "Oh, there he is." BROWIE POP-UP MOVE "Okay, so he's done a lot, but we've had enough now I think. Now, we'll be able to make sure there is no funny business. And we're gonna put a great big bend in the card, and place it into the middle of the deck. Now there is no way you can't see that, it's got a great big bend in it. But we'll place the rest of the deck on top, and as I said before, Houdini can get out of just about everything, so if I snap my fingers and move my hand over, something pops up. And if we turn it over ..." There'll probably be roars of 'HOWD HE DO DAT?' and 'WTF?' which is the satisfaction of being a magician. Anyway, that's how I'd do it. You go ahead and post. It takes a while, but it's worth sharing your ideas. Last edited by J23K; 04-27-2009 at 02:32 PM. Reason: Merged due to double post |

I have three patters that I interchange.
The first is a casual, impromptu patter that comes in handy on the street. It's quick and easy to grasp. I have the spec name their favorite card, sign it, then say, "We, as human beings, tend to gravitate toward and seek out the things we like, often when we're not thinking about it. As it turns out, the things we like gravitate toward us. Let me show you what I mean..." Second is a more prepared patter about how when we name something, we gain power over it. How our first step in dealing with the fear of the unknown is to start naming and classifying. Third is for kids. They name a card, then get to train it like a puppy. When they successfully "train" the card how to do a Braue pop up, it's cool. That's the great thing about the ACR. It's a perfect routine to let your performance character take center stage, not the tricks.
