So the other day I went to Penguin and see what was new. I looked through and found Clutch (because it stares at you as soon as you go to the site) Well, its pretty straight forward:
-Spectator shuffles, and then picks a card for themselves in their own hands -Card is put into the center by the spectator, they even hold the cards as they push it in -Cards put away into box -Box goes into the spectator's pocket -Magician "pickpockets" the spectators card out of the box, and yet the box is still shown to be empty. And the cool thing is theres no funny moves or anything of the sort. Its straight-forward. Well, I had already had a lot of ideas before my purchase. And they all turned out to be right, except for one part....(I'm releasing a tutorial later on) Performances 5/5 This trick is performed for you in several different venues and for different amounts of people, showing how powerful the trick is no matter where you use it. Nice, full performances. Teaching 5/5 Oz is a great teacher, plain and simple. In this video he teaches all the fine points of the trick, provides great performance tips, and really is just a fun guy to learn from. The Trick 5/5 I mean the trick...just looks fantastic. Its straightforward. The spectators do it all man. There is only 2 "moves" if they can even be called that. And I think any magician who can spread cards in their hands can do this simple trick. The Method 4/5 The handling loses a point because of how pissed off I got when I remember that I forgot about one "tool" that can be used in card magic. Once I remember this after watching the video...I noticed that a lot of people could figure this out for themselves. Overall though, I like to perform it. I laugh inside my head when I do the "moves" The most amazing thing of all though is that the trick is totally impromptu. The whole shabang gets a 5/5 period.

In my opinion this is a good and effective trick, simple but hard hitting. Though I feel it's a bit overpriced for a download.
If you have been in magic for a while, you'll be able to figure out the trick fairly easily by watching the demo video + a bit of creative thinking. Thumbs up to Oz for this!

Overpriced, but you get awesome reactions. I did it to a fellow magician at work today. I pulled his card out of his pocket, and suddenly his eyes went wide and he started swearing. It was classic. Incredibly deceiving trick.

Oh, I swore SO loudly when I realised what it was. But the c**** he teaches is effective, and the effect itself is quite stunning. So fair. A bit pricey

I use this effect if I get challenged. If someone says : yeah but you can't do it if I shuffle the pack... Then this is the trick I show them.
I was always a little bit shy of using the "tool" mentionned... As for now I rarely use this type of method but used sparily it is quite effective. Great for offhand use... Other methods would require forcing or short cards or other equivalents. What is great is how clean this is.

I knew the first time I watched the video that there aren't many other ways to be able to control a card after they shuffle. I didn't understand, which is the hard part, why so many card guys were stumped on this one. Given a minute or two of thought it's obvious.
Peace. |

The issue for magicians is that the method is something so simple and unused that we just don't even consider it a plausibility. It never crosses our minds.

Perhaps a "Palm-And-Dump-Back-Again" approach might work if you tend to overdo the c**** like me. But then you lose the cleanliness of the effect. It's a compromise...

just some pointers for future references:
performed this trick often but was caught on 2 occasions. one was when i handed over the deck for shuffling and that spectator, bent on exposing the trick actually squared the deck up and examined every side. i guess this says something about choosing of audience. on the second occasion when i took the card out from a spectator's front shirt pocket, he somehow had an angle from which he could see how i picked out the card, or maybe because my actions weren't fluid enough. |
