I am not honestly familiar with that trick/dvd.

Wish I would toss in my input but I am clueless. Maybe another user has one?

I've been looking at this for a while. Can anyone comment on the gimmick and the effect? Is it worth $50? Does it get good reactions?

Thanks in advance!

I just watched the video on it. It does not seem like it is worth it. All they did was sign a card, control it to the top, and towards the end slide it into a devices that was able to switch the cards.

(Not sure if thats what the devices does)

In my opinion, its not worth it. I would rather to a double lift and then just a flick change.

Totally recommend this item. Doesn't look much, agree, but the affect it has on spectators ( ALL IMPORTANT ) is amazing. Wont go into method into how its achieved, but its ingenious. BUY IT ! certainly if you can get it for $50 - its nearer $80 in UK

I have this effect. WOW is one of the best visual gadgets I have ever seen. You show a 'see through' perspex case (its a mesh kind of thing) and it's empty

You have a card selected, signed and returned

You show an indifferent card (such as 8H)

You clearly place this card into WOW and show both sides, they see both the front and back of the indifferent card, suddenly the card SLOWLY and visually turns into the signed selection, the spectator can remove the card and WOW is once again empty and transparent.

It's NOT a hologram

It's about ?40 here in the UK

Here's my say on Masuda's WOW:
Price: GBP39 in the UK, US$55 in the USA

Description on the website:
A spectator freely selects a card, signs his name on the face and returns it to the deck. An indifferent card is slid into a paper-thin clear plastic sleeve just large enough to hold the card. While the sleeve is held between thumb and forefinger, and with no hand movement of any kind, the indifferent card slowly and visibly morphs into the signed selected card! The spectator can remove his card. There is nothing else in the sleeve! It looks like real magic!

If you seen the video, its something like this:
Spectator selects a card, signs her name on the face and returns it to the deck. The magician tries to find the card and seems to fail and choosen another card. So the magicians introduce a thin plastic sleeve that LOOKS almost transparent, that he'll put the card into it and shake it, and the card VISIBLELY CHANGE in front of the spectator's eye.

What I say:
No force, Freely choose a card? YES
Normal ungimiccked deck? YES
'Paper-thin' clear plastic sleeve? NO, about 4mm.
clear plastic sleeve? NO, you can see thru it, but its not totally clear.
Can you let the spectator handle the plastic sleeve? NO
Visiblely change in front of spectator? YES
Can shake it fast or slow? YES
Can you repeat it to the same person? Depends...

The sleeve does everything for you. However you need to know how to do a double lift.

The gimmick is produce in batch, so you might get one with a different card face than other buyer. That card is the one you'll need to 'seem to incorrectly choosen', and it will always be the same, unless you buy a few different WOW gimmick!!!!

YOU SHOULD GET IT IF:
You are a paid performer, and does performance often. It offers the WOW factor to spectator who sees it once. You can repeat the trick to the same person, but if they remember, they will notice you have chosen the same wrong card and wonder why. Spectator usually won't ask to see the sleeve, and if they do, you tell them before you put the card in the sleeve that it is to make sure there's no way you get near the card or do a switch.

YOU SHOULD NOT GET IT IF:
You just want to know how it work, and you just perform to your friends and family. As your friends will probably want to grab the plastic sleeve to have a look. And the cost of this gimmick does not justify it. You will probably show it to friends once or twice and put it in the drawer. As most masuda's product, they are over priced. All you get for what you pay is the plastic sleeve and simple instruction, no detail patter or dvd instruction.
You should not get it also if you are a beginner in magic, as the cost doesn't seem to justify it, I would suggest spending your money buying some dvds which has a few tricks on it. For WOW, you only get a gimmick (a piece of plastic!), and you need to learn everything else yourself.

Additional note:
Because you don't end totally clean with the gimick, and due to popularity, a similiar ungimick sleeve is also available for separate purchase so that you can switch it and hand it to the spectator, this means that you have to spend another extra $17 for the ungimicked sleeve. Google for 'masuda wow ungimmicked' and you'll find it available from stevesmagic.

I also notice on youtube and some other forums, there have been people who manage to make their own WOW gimicked for very cheap with plastic sheets, they name it 'OMG', but no way the quality can compare to masuda's. Off course if you spend enough time, you can make a very good copy!

The idea for masuda's gimick is a very very old one, I have seen it in other product when i was very young, its very clever of masuda to turn that idea into magic.

Hope this help!
