Default Sankey's Secret Files

The re-issue of Jay Sankey's 'Sankey's Secret Files' is a welcomed release. Jay has a brilliant mind and it shines in this DVD.

My favorite Sankey DVDs tend to be the ones with multiple effects. This is no exception. If you can't find a few effects off this DVD to use in your routine, you must not be too interested in magic. My two favorites from the DVD are WHAT IF and SIGNED, SINGED & DELIVERED. These are classic Sankey effects.

Some have been included on other releases but not too many. A booklet is included giving some updated information for these effects. The list price is $60.00 but several places are offering it at $30.00. $30.00 for 25 effects, thats a great deal. If you only use 5 effects, that is $6.00 an effect, still a good deal.

As usual, Jay gives some good insight to why he uses certain patter. He tries to talk about the psychology behind the effects without getting too deep into that. Jay teaches a few sleights along the way- some old and some new.

As I watched these effects I could see the influences of great magicians such as Theodore Annemann, John Northern Hilliard, and S.W. Erdnase.

I would highly recommend this DVD. Mine will sit next to his 'Kalidescope' DVD which happens to be my favorite project from him.

There are no gimmicks included although you probably have what you will need in your magic supplies.

Here is a complete list of the effects:

1.CARBON PAPER - A smoke stain travels from one card to another!

2.WHAT IF - A shocking transformation of a page from a notepad!

3.STRONG MEDICINE - A killer 2-phase effect with a borrowed bill!

4.SELECTIVE MEMORY - Jay's all-time favorite "Four Ace" opener!

5.OUTSIDER - An eye-popping color changing deck routine!

6.BLACK MARKET - Mind control with a book of matches!

7.PENALTY BOX - A card vanishes from the card case under test conditions!

8.SWEET BREAD - A sugar packet and a bill change places in the spectator's hand!

9.180 DEGREES - The "Triumph" routine that blows magicians away!

10.CHAMELEON - A matchbook changes into a selected card!

11.SENSATIONS - A ridiculously easy two key transposition!

12.SIGNED, SINGED & DELIVERED- You won't believe what Jay does with flash paper!

13.REMOTE CONTROL - Laypeople kiss their "free will" goodbye!

14.NOMAD - A tear visually JUMPS from one card to another!

15.X - The "Invisible Deck" handling all the pros will be doing!

16.FOUND MONEY - It looks like trick photography!

17.MIDNIGHT SPECIAL - Predict the hour a spectator was BORN!

18.TUNNEL VISION - A 4 card-4 coin routine with a difference!

19.FED EXCHANGE - An extremely "heavy" two card transposition!

20.THE WAVE LOAD - The "L'homme Masque" move for the 2nd Millenium!

21.DITTO - A very, very, very, sneaky "Do As I Do."

22.OVER THE COUNTER - Jay's hyper-practical floating aspirin routine!

23.SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION - A card ignites inside a sealed card case!

24.HEALER - The audience SEES a torn card HEAL itself!

25.CLASSIFIED - The "Newspaper Prediction" worth $25,000 in performing contracts!

The only thing I have really seen of his are the Borris mentalist DVD - I loved it, the methods were pretty well thought out and presented in a very humorous way. I'd love to see more of him and his stuff. Two thumbs up!!

The good thing about being a beginner is the amount of things to learn. But I also have to be selective. Do you guys recommend this DVD for a beginner?

Check out Magic Tricks, Magic Trick, Learn Magic Tricks, Street Magic | Sankey Magic Inc. He usually has at least one free effect each week. He does run some pretty good specials on his site.

DidiMoco- I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone starting out in magic. There is so much good information on the DVD plus some great effects. Some of them may take a little practice- really any magic effect takes practice- there are easy and intermediate effects that are well taught. You will learn a lot of basics of magic even if you decide not to use any of the effects. I hardly doubt that you will not find 5 or 6 that stand out to you.

I would recommend this DVD to any level of magician out there. Criss Angel and David Copperfield both have used a number of Jay's effects. Again, $30.00 for 25 effects is a real good deal.

I am not affiliated with Jay in any way, I'm just someone who is quite pleased with this particular DVD.

I will think a little. What I really love are card tricks. But if you recommend as well, it should in fact be of good quality. As a beginner, it might be a good start for things than card. Thanks for the tip.

Over a third of the effects on the DVD are card related.

Check out his website for free effects.

When I first was exposed to him, I did not care for him. Our styles are so different but as I looked at the effects I could really the the genius of Jay Sankey. He is not a flashy magician but he is brilliant.
