Booked At The Rio...Sort of...

Just returned from DC and Sunday I'm off to Las Vegas.

The Suicide Prevention Program I work with has asked me to do a few magic tricks to attract people to their booth. Their annual program convention is at the Rio. So I guess I can say I'm booked at the Rio in Las Vegas...

While I am at the Rio I plan to take in the Penn & Teller Show and check in with my friends at Houdini's.

Internet use may again be limited next week, mostly because I'll be too busy.

Well my shows went very well today. People loved 'Russian Roulette'. I have a couple more shows tomorrow.

Yikes, that effect is pretty scary. Do you actually use a nail or something else, like an egg or balloon?

hah, i believe i'd use a fake rubber nail and pass it off as being sharp. That way, after the trick is over and they are going crazy, you could get a nice laugh by picking it up and wobbling it around a bit

I actually use a 5 inch nail that I cut down to 4.5 inches so it fits better under the regular size hotel coffee cups.

I line the 4 cups on the floor in front of me and I stomp on them with my foot. My next showing it at 4:30 this afternoon. I could really get into doing corporate type shows. It is really exausting though.

I have considered using a nail made from a straw and foil when I perform at the schools. I have just about perfected one the will twear through paper like a real nail. This can be a dangerous trick if not done right and I would hate to have someone just try to do it. In my presentation I talk about the downfalls of using a stooge to tell me where the nail is and the problems that can arise if you mark the cups. I do this to discourage them from thinking that that is how it is done.

I think things went very well for me the last couple of days.

From this I have some referrals for more shows.

I now know how to tell when the battery in the 'Devil's Nail; goes bad.

The 'Devil's Nail' LED blinks when the battery is low. That's a whole lot better that giving no indication at all. I am working on a way to do the trick while blindfolded.

I am seeing some strange things here in Vegas. I ran across a 'grifter' doing the old shell game today. As I was taking a picture the 'shill' told me that I couldn't take a picture. I said this is a free country and it is not against the law to take the picture. So here is one of the pictures. The 'grifter' wasn't a very good worker of the shell game but he still was raking in the money.
