Default Project Mayhem

Idea. We use our tiny chat room to hold organized practice sessions.

Simple. I know. It is beautiful.

We create a schedule. Maybe even use ExoMagic's built in calendar. You schedule a "session." The session can be about any trick, sleight, anything. You choice. You post a day, a time, and a subject in the schedule. Everyone interested in learning shows up, practiced up and ready to teach each other what they have to offer.

The name Project Mayhem came from the initial discussion on Tiny Chat.

Any ideas? Suggestions? Like it? Love it? Loathe it?

I don't think were going to have issues with people showing up There has been upwards to 20 people on per night lol. It's been an amazing week.

I like the idea, I've noticed weekends there are higher turnouts. We can also add the events on our calendar and have open discussion in the forums on the sessions.

Just my two cents.

to help with the different time zones, the staff here have been talking about weekly sessions for learning.

We have also come to the conclusion, these sessions need to be recorded and made available for users, not able to come to the sessions, to view.

Sam,

I love the idea of recording these and lately there have been more and more people in tinychat. The sessions seem to be getting pretty popular, at least the last few times I've been there.

How do we record? I like the idea, just the basics?? We have to be careful as to not become an exposure site

Anything recorded will have to end up locked in the Academy. We actually ought to consider a password protected TC channel for that purpose...

I dig the idea mate.

I'm still stumped on the timezone issue, but anyone with access to TinyChat will be able to view it (with or without a cam).

And yes, anything that is recorded will be locked into the Academy.

i thought of a way to fix the time zone issue.......but i forgot.....joking
We have different people around the world teaching at different times and maybe swap it about each week, so one person for like the east of the earth one person from the west side etc.

it might work but if it doesn't we will all be stumped, which reminds me this question should be brougght to the Stump the MAGE! section lol

I think the TZ issue may be something we have to live with initiall. If there's enough people to have a session during various TZs then it'll work itself out automagically, but if you put too much formalization into the process at the outset, you're likely to limit your participation across the board rather than increase it.

Recording the sessions is definitely the right thing to do. And while watching a recording isn't as good as a 1:1 session where you can ask questions, if the recordings are hosted in the academy, input can always be provided in post session Q&A and video responses could be done in Vimeo.

I agree with Mofo -

If you try to put too much structure into it you will hamper things....

(Time Zones! That's not really an area you can do much about, anyways! LOL Time Flux Capacitors are really really expensive! But if you go that route get a red one cause it is my favorite color!)

But with that said you might want to put some structure to the sessions if you are going to record it because anytime I have been there it has been a total zoo! Don't get me wrong, as I loved it, but there is a big difference in actually participating in a big party and watching it. It is not much of a spectator's sport in it's current version. LOL

I'd recommend only ONE CAMERA with your main guy giving a short planned lecture with a question and answer period at the end. Just a thought! We can have the usual free for all at the end of the session.
