I think that what you wear helps you get better reactions.
this is my observation( and I use the same patter and style of showmanship so that quite doesn't make a difference and I Perform the two card monte and mentalism with cards almost everytime so that's mostly my basis.): School uniform:the reaction is mostly "where'd you buy that?" or "who taught you that?" yes they get surprised and I get reactions but the questions stated are asked on a 3/5 ratio and sometimes they just don't react. and I perform these to laymen out of our school who are not students yet the questions are present. walking shorts, shirt and flip flops: normal reactions, if I perform to people I don't know, they just say it's cool they laugh and get amazed, there's still the presence of hecklers. black slacks and black shirt: SILENCE. yes they get silent sometimes. but same reactions as the walking shorts, shirt and flip flops. (I have'nt tried this but I watched my friend who wears this kind of clothing and he gets these reactions and yes we tried this with the same trick) I just want to ask you about what you think about clothing in our magic.

well... in school where people knew you..
they just don't believe that you do magic... they will just think where the hell this freak get all his trick from... or try to catch you cheating... no idea why too~ but if you wanna nail them... just use some simple and visual trick.. like the crazyman handcuff... * not sure of the name* where rubber band penetrate through each other..

Hiya!
Clothing definitely makes a difference. It is all about presentation! My mom was a tailor who made wedding dresses and some of her stuff ended up on Dynasty the tv show. My sister Melanie is a hair stylist and my other sister, Melissa is a graphic artist.... Me, I was the bum in the family. Seriously my family used to give me such crap cause of the way I dressed. Then I figured out that girls LOVED the my family inspired wardrobe and it finally stuck. For a while there I was maybe a little too absorbed and I relaxed at bit, but now I have the ability to make a choice where as before I wouldn't know how to spiff up in order to save my life. If you want a couple of great books (that are slightly dated but the principles apply) get Charles Hix's two books, Man Alive & Working Out. He writes for playboy and other men's magazines. Great info! If you follow the advice in those books guys will hate you but the ladies will drool. Nuff said. I watched part of Will Draven's show before my laptop overheated (GRRRR.). His costume or aura would not be the same in a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Sure he can (and I am sure does) magic in that attire... But the get up he has going during shows shoves him way over the top. In the little time I spent with him I know that was NO accident and he put a lot of time into the details, which is the sign of a true professional. If you want to try an experiment, which I have to do at the end of this month (Speeding!), go to court in a suit vrs the bozos who show up in a t-shirt and jeans. I typically get treated better by the judge and get a lighter fine. Yeah, I have done this a couple of times. LOL Just a thought- -misj- |

I always wear a shirt, whether its a formal shirt in a smart situation, or a checkered shirt in a casual situation.
The reason for this is because firstly shirts are always smarter and more presentable than t-shirts or vests, but most importantly you can roll up your sleeves. About 80% of people I perform for say "But you don't even have sleeves" and I believe that statement significantly strengthens my magic. I don't know why but people seem to notice that you don't have sleeves more so when your wearing a rolled up shirt, than when wearing a t-shirt. I guess it may be because of the fact that you could have sleeves but you've specifically rolled them up in order not to.
