That sums it up fairly accurately... Although Annoying is probably not a strong enough sentiment at times.

But it WAS my idea and it actually works, in that working to solve his puzzle it doesn't really matter whether I solve it or not. (I keep telling myself that) I am also using the excuse that I don't really want to win because I couldn't come up with a decent riddle. (Now, I am covered twice-fold. Sheer Genius!)

I am learning a bunch in the process. As the saying goes.... You get out of it what you put into it.

I recommend who every gives it a go post there findings right or wrong...

I did a little bit of searching and came up with this answer. Can it be U.F. Grants Four-Ace Routine (from Tarbell Course in Magic - Volume 5), but with queens instead of aces. The effect you are describing is the same, but using a different four of a kind.

Spetznaz,

Hmmm.... I don't have access to the tarbell course in magic. Can you PM the routine to me and I'll see how it compares. Perhaps a few more hints are in order, such as the moves. Perhaps sleights should be included in the description (not necessarily HOW to do the moves).

We're getting closer....The trick is from a Classic, and the tarbell course could certainly be considered a classic.

I know exactly what the answer is, but since I already won a prize I will leave this one alone.

The only thing I can say is think SDRAWKCAB.

Ok, one last hint and then I think this specific one has run it's course (unless I'm asked otherwise).

Sam mentioned to think SDRAWKCAB. I'll tip off a bit more from that. Sam's comment is not about the trick itself, or the name of the trick, but the author of the book that the trick comes from. Unless you know some history behind the authors name, that hint might not make much sense but as soon as you hear the name of the author, all *SHOULD* be clear.

Put on your thinking caps, ponder the hint, think of the author, then find the trick. You've got until tomorrow night, 9:00pm EST.

Go break out your copy of Expert at the Card Table by S.W.Erdnase (or was that E. S. Andrews...BACKWARDS) and turn to page 176 for "The Exclusive Coterie".

Now, back to frustration and drink as I ponder how replacing every component in my computer still results in the same basic "power on" problem. First I thought the PSU, then the BOARD, then the switch on the case. Replaced the CPU too (might as well, replaced the mother board) and STILL the damn thing turns on for half a second and then back off.

I don't have volume 5 of the Tarbell Course, just the PC one. Found the trick on that site that was linked to. I read through the four ace tricks in lesson 36 of "The Original Tarbell Course of Magic" and found a trick called "The Wandering Aces". Four aces are placed on the table, spectator chooses one and 3 cards are placed on top of each ace. The aces jumps to the pile where the spectators ace is.

The Wandering Aces uses the same sleights as The Exclusive Coterie, palm and switch, but with aces instead of queens.

Mofo!

PM me!- I am a whiz at solving hardware issues. It sounds like maybe you have a short in your case.... Or maybe you have a jumper wrong (but you would have found that when you switched mb right?)

Anyways I need more details ...

I thought about it for a sec ... YOU are hooking up ONLY the mb, cpu, memory and ps right? (you may have to throw in the video card too). But you want to eliminate as much as you can from the test loop then add a component piece by piece till you come across it. Otherwise the oddest component can suck down all the juice and not allow your system to boot. I've once seen the mouse do it... Talk about a head scratcher! lol

Good luck!

Misj,

I'll ping you just to tell you the rotten stupid luck I've had so far. I've been doing computers for about 15 years, but combining frustration levels, 38 years of age, and expensive equipment has not worked out for me this last couple of weeks.

Spetznaz,
That sounds about right with the Ernase version. Hrmm...you're in Stockholm? I'm in the US but PM me with what you would like.

I'm not trying to take anything away from anyone but the effect that spetnaz is referring to is not the same effect.

The effect spetnaz is talking about the spec chooses the packet with all the aces before anything is done, but in the trick questioned the spec narrows down to the final packet selection, which has all four queens.

I'm just saying. Take it how you will, but they don't sound like the same trick to me.

After looking at both tricks, as far as I can tell they are the same, at least when looking in the books

But if you look at Ricky Jay preforming the trick, he does another trick more similar to MacDonald's aces.

MofoMojo, I sent you a message on your profile page

Okay so here is my idea for a round of the game.
There is a close up of a back of a card which is randomly selected. then people have to try and guess what the deck is, you can use card fronts like the ace of spades or a king queen jack etc, or just the back of a playing card.
Here is an example:
