Default OLD DECKS OF CARDS! (What to do????!??)

Hey guys, I have a lot of old decks of cards and I have no Idea what to do with them. I usually just put all my decks in a pile and use them later as duplicate cards, but what do I do once my cards are way too old? And when do I know when to throw duplicate cards away that are in my pile?

I guess i'm just asking what I should do with my old decks.

I usually use them for signature cards as long as the backs are not to different than the new deck.

I've trashed so many cards, it isn't funny.

Just throw them away. Unless you live in a country where cards aren't cheap (Only 2 dollars for 2 bikes here)

Don't waste those cards. You can always use it to practise your mecury card fold or TnR cards before trashing them. At least that is what I always do.

damn! only $2?!?!? I had to pay $10 for a standard bicycle deck... and paid $20 for a bicycle masters edition!!! I should order mine from overseas. Need to get Shadow Masters....imagine how much they'd rape me with the price in australia.

Anyways, with old cards, I never throw them away as I use them for practicing torn and restored, mindbender (i don't like using my normal deck for this because it f*cks up the card), duplicates, signatures, gimmicks? Or sometimes I keep them and don't use them...so it's kinda like a museum in that way.... when someone comes over you can tell them "this is the deck I used when I first started learning magic....as you can see there are drops of blood on some of the cards .... some are stuck together ... this japanese chick signed her name and put her number on the ace of spades...but she wasn't that good in bed, I should have given her a joker to sign....and DON"T TOUCH THAT CARD...it's urm .. dirty."

I test out effects that require a card to be damaged in the process. =]

Keep 'em around, you never know when you might need an old card.

Default 51 Ideas of what to do with playing cards

I took the time to think some good and some absurd ideas of what to do with playing cards...

I am a pyromaniac. I generally burn my cards and rub the ashes on my body to prepare myself for my occult neo-pagan rituals. The symbols have a global purpose of creating balance in one's soul.

Other than that you can do some very useful things with spare cards.
Maximize the use of your old cards by following sequences which gradually deteriorate the cards...

1. Among the coolest things... if you have massive amounts of cards.
You could beat Bryan Ber at extreme card stacking :

http://www.cardstacker.com/gallery.html
http://www.cardstacker.com/faq.html
2. Create yourself a wallet out of old playing cards :

http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Playing-Cards-Wallet
This means you could even do a card wallet with cards for your cards! (For your favorite packet tricks...)

3. All those cards that you would throw away anyways... practice card throws with them! (Learn the proper card throw techniques first... never throw cards at people)
For the basics here's a webpage about card throwing :
http://www.wikihow.com/Throw-Playing-Cards
3a. Get yourself a big sheet of styrofoam. Throw the cards in that! They will stick in the foam and you wont have to pick them up from the floor. Draw a target for extra fun.
4b. For even more excitement once you get good momentum in your cards throw cards at a watermellon.
5. Practice your drawings and signatures on those spare cards.
6. Practice your mercury card folds and one hand card folds.
7. After you did a mercury card fold you can also practice card to mouth.
7a. While you're at it practice unfolding the card with your tonge!
8. Burn the cards and keep the ashes in a special container for later use. (Ex : neopagan ritual or for ashes on arm)

-------------
9. You can also strip off layers of the cards and do onlayed or inlayed gimmicks with them. (Learn that in martini's art of card splitting)
9a. You can also use quarters of those cards to create the inlay for certain torn and restored card effects with mismatched or wrong-colored ending fourth corner.
10. Practice card-in-bottle effects.
11. You can practice card origami
12. Make big-ass static card castles or make your own giant popup card castle!
13. Get yourself Huron Low's DVDs Four and Fire in the hole... that should use up a lot of cards!
14. Do the card effect "Carbon Paper" of Jay Sankey from Sleight of hand secrets with cards.
15. Create collapsible large card fans for stage productions.
16. If the cards are yellow and have wrinkles its time to sell them as vintage decks.
17. If the cards are in good quality use those spare cards to create some packet tricks.
18. Use black spraypaint or a fairly new black marker to create some cards which are black on the back. (Black art cards)
19. Practice the "linking cards" card trick which ressembles linking rings.
20. Gather 52 cards from your used cards pile and practice backpalming one card, multiple cards and multiple backpalm productions.
21. Similarily practice card productions and vanishes.
22. Prepare a couple of cards with a central burn. Invent a routine that makes use of those.
23. Make your own "In a flash" sankey gimmick.
24. Use the low spot cards to write notes on them... Write your magic ideas on them.
25. Create a deck of Mathieu Bich Black Hole.
26. Use as a cover surface while spraying roughing fluid on other cards.
27. Use several stacked cards as a cutting surface.
28. Create your beta version of your own unique card toon animation.
29. Use them as impromptu business cards.
30. Create your own intercessor gimmick and test the corner tears using your extra cards.
31. Use matching-back half cards in use of a torn and restored card effect as taught in michael ammar's easy to master card miracles vol 5 which is inspired by JC Wagner's T&R Card.
32. I know there are many Sankey magic tricks which require you to have black X's on the faces or on the backs or having black masking tape on the cards...
33. Some tricks require a hole punched all thought the deck to have a padlock on it. For example the trick "Chain Gang" in Revolutionary Card Magic of Jay Sankey.
34. Use them in a routine in which you tranform/repair an old deck into a new deck.
35. Use the extra cards to do three card monte.
36. Create card cubes : http://nedbatchelder.com/text/cardcube.html
37. Practice card warp effects with saliva.
38. Use your cards as tapestry on your walls... you card freak!
39. Fold the cards and use tape to stick them near your back wheel on your bmx and then you look like you are riding a motor cycle! "Drrrrrr!!!!!"
40. Become an amusement park person/hustler with big plushies! Prepare one or two sheets of plywood with cards glued on them. Buy yourself some cheap darts (cheap darts wont stick well in the plywood and thus you will give away less plushies). Print a chart of points based on where the person hits on the cards. Collect money and buy yourself new cards!
41. If the cards are still of good quality... Make your own mirage/svengali/stripper decks
42. Make short cards.
43. Give your roomies/family memo's on the fridge using playing cards.
44. Incorporate your spare cards inventively as a part of a Rube Goldberg device! (Incredible machine)
45. Use them as bookmarks
46. Use them to do straight underlines when reading.
47. You are shy yet you want to tell someone you want to dance with her on the dance floor? Write down a request on a playing card.
48. Hole punch the cards and make confetti with them for a wedding to come.
49. Cut circles from playing cards... Play POGS
50. Roll the cards in cylinders and use them as coin rolls.
51. With extra cards you might play solitaire games such as X pickup where X is no longer 52 but the amount of cards you can spare.
52. Roll the cards and use the cylinders as the exterior decorative body of a small rocket.
53. Get yourself some plastic packing bubbles and glue a layer of cards in between each layer of bubbles to create a home-made matress.
54. Get some very hot girls and photograph them as they are laying down in a bunch of playing cards. (Winks at Katie of T11)
55. At this point you might consider looking up if you can beat some guiness world records.
55a. If you still have any more spare playing cards by the time you read this... get a life!
56. If you still did not listen to my presequent advice you might as well continue with your card-obsession and become the king of cards.
