I was just wondering if you guys in the U.K., Europe and elsewhere use U.S. currency for tricks from over here or if you change them all to something your audience recognize. I know people can start to get suspicious if you use a "funny" coin.
Is U.S. currency easy to get? I can get English pennies that match coin sets but beyond that I really have to look and pay through the nose for older nice coins to use. For instance, I tried my balls off to get my hands on 4 four pence coins for a trick and no luck. |

English pennies: the ones that are the same size as half dollars are "old" money. They stopped making them in 1971 when the UK decimalised it's currency. If you need to buy some then eBay is a good place to look. I bought a roll of 25 old English pennies for ?0.50 ($1) plus postage.
UK and European coins are now awful to handle. I use half dollar coins, which I can get from magic shops or eBay. I agree that they are less impromptu, but not much alternative unfortunately. I read of one steet performer who changed back to half dollars from English ?2 coins. The reason was that when he gave one to someone in a crowd, that person would suddenly disappear with his coin. Not a problem with half dollar coins. |
