And the great thing about riffle pass is that the riffle itself is a misdirection. So you don't have to do any other misdirection. They don't even know you're misdirecting.

OK...
Ive been trying to perfect the Pass.. any pass for almost a year. I do it in some variation almost every day. The classic pass. This is a hard one. I think its because its hard to practice when Im not standing directly in front of a mirror. Practicing a few feet from the mirror is very difficult, because the angles are different. Thos of you who do this, will know you have to tilt your hands almost straight out, and left wrist is very uncomfortable. I have recorded myself doing the classic pass in a movie I made once, and at that point, it was invisible at some times. I am not comfortable doing this one on one, especially if they are burning my hands. I knew of the herman and hoffman pass before, but now im getting confused as to the differences are. I guess the hoffman pass is when you push the cards into your left palm as you do the bottom to top pass, and the herman pass is not having to push it in to the palm.. and just bringing the bottom to the top with the left hand knuckle. Little differences. I find I like these two alot better than the classic pass. The angles are much more manageable, and there is a ton more cover. You also dont need to do the "rock" up and down, instead you can do the very natural turn over pass, or wipe the table action, or roll up the sleeves with this. I saw the practicality and was inspired to pactice the bottom to top passes more after watching the aaron fisher one one one footage. I like the angled out card approach too to bring it to the bottom. One thing is for sure, the classic pass, i dont like.. unless your spectator totally isnt paying attention. If im not doing the pass, and there is a table, ill do table cuts to control cards, or I will undercut, or do the paul lepaul triple rotation cut... those are my thoughts on that pesky pass.... oi! |

I personally use the riffle pass right now, but my other favorite passes are Fujii Akiras Classic Pass, Wrist turn pass from earl nelsons lost tapes vol1 and the top cover pass becasue it virtually invisble and the spectators can be burning your hands and still see nothing and you are set for a double

I vote for Classic Pass. Nothing too difficult, just a pass with some misdirection.
I don't normally use a Pass unless I'm either caught with doing a double or I know one of the spectators knows some simple magic. |

Well they certainley aren't the only place to learn....I would normally say youtube is great for this kind of stuff, but to be honest, it's not....maybe look into some books about it, that's how I learned, I really don't know of any DVD's that go into the pass, so that's where everyone else comes in...but yeah head down to the library, or search on google....hope I helped...

Heres a lecture on the pass...that is not realliy a lecture.
I work in a group with other young magicians. Now alot of these kids are ALOT younger than me so I usually just talk to the adults because they understand what i'm doing more..the children are only interested in COBs and whatnot. But the adults seem to understand my performance style more and I can relate to them more because they are the only ones who understand what i'm saying when I bring up the pass. Here was our conversation. Apparently I was told that the pass is not a needed component. People with small hands (like me) should not do the pass because you can not get complete coverage. In fact, studys show that only 5% of all working magicians use the pass. Now that shocked me but then I decided (and no offense) that there was a flaw in the data because I heard all you doing the pass. Anyway, then I thought about that thread I read earlier and most of you on here arent working magicians. I learned that infact most magicians use the double undercut because the pass is not necessary. I can see some instances where the pass may be useful. I can still do it even though my hands are small, but forcing them to look at my face by talking to them is sometimes hard.

I am now enlightened. I no longer have to use the pass, I can now simply use the double undercut followed by a flashy XCM false cut, and I can breeze through every spectator EVER! Hooray! Thanks Camerboirzu, you've made my day.
