What are you doing if a spectator reveals a sleight?

I love the people that think they know "How magic is done" I find it more of a challenge to do tricks to them that they have never seen. If they catch me doing a double lift, ill shuffle control it through the deck and perform a new miracle as i avoid the situation. Usually works for me

Then I start to walk away.

hahahaha I love that man. You could use that in any situation (not just magic performance) where someone's trying to annoy you or piss you off. What other lines do you like to use? I used to do this when someone (in a group of 3-4 people) used to be like "i saw you do <blah blah blah>"... i'd say "shhhh...quiet... <then look around> ... do you smell something?".. they're like.. "no?"... then I said "it smells like bulls##t!" Usually gets a laugh if delivered correctly, otherwise depending the on ambience I'll just say "have a nice day" and walk away.

David Stone's Real Secret of Magic DVDs gives you some advice on how to deal with those people, and as I remember RSVP magic also released some dvds which helps you with that.

Another good solution. I'm also of the opinion that fighting/negating is senseless - why not making a compliment!?

Anyone got the DVD "Brian Tudor - The Heckler" - I learned a few moves from it but having made that whole routine perfect it should be quite funny, even tho it might be a bit offensive in the way he does it:

But it's still a good way to just continue with some fast effects you're really sure of not being caught at.

hey guys, ive been working restaurants for 3-4 years now and i find the best thing to do is just ingore and keep on going, if you ignore them mostlikely everyone else will, and always have some tricks prepared to really screw over those hecklers. never get made and say anything rude, i did once just makes ya feel guilty..because were only magicians..lol not that credible

Ignore him for the moment. And then do something self-working in your next effect. No sleights.

Just swear repeatedly and start singing your favourite national anthem, leading them to believe you're mad and then they'll pay attention to what you do in case you DO bite their throat out.

Well i had a problem with some class meyt's who could catch some of my slights and expose them because iv showed it to them and they rely blow thing up but iv found a nice way to make them shut up i just do the trick where they know the slights and then they start to expose it i just laugh and tell them to try to catch it again and i do the same effect but with different slights and they just go nuts and don't know what hit them And now its the funnyest thing to perform magic for them because they still try to catch it and i aways make them burn their minds and the other spectator just think its a part of the trick
BTW all most all the tricks can be done with least 2 different slights so slights are replaceable ( Not in all cases but in some for example DL with Pass)

so guys what clean tricks would you do if a heckler was to appear how would YOU make them look foolish.

me personally clutch or a very visual effect say the zombie card (forgive me if thats not the correct name )

You don't want to make the heckler appear foolish, in my opinion, that draws people's attention to them. You just want to show everyone that the heckler is just heckling.

I'd say any self-working trick would work. I know that the Invisible deck has been mentioned before as well.

I have run into this before. I had a group of freinds together one time for a party. Good luck had it he was just guessing at how the effect was done. The next two tricks I did I put him in the center. I think I did Sankeys nickel and key trick. He looked like an idiot and was imbarest. Also Clutch. Let him pick the card . Put the pack in his pocket. I pulled his chosen card out in like 2 seconds. Don't think he will be heckling any more.

If your confident and Intelligent about it you can explain it away..

once and only once in my almost 20 years of magic did i have a 13 girl ask if it was possible to hold two cards together, in front of a table at a paid gig...

i calmly told her that it wouldn't be possible to handle two cards as one, because cards are slick enough and they would slide all over the place, and i gave her two cards and said here keep them together, and pointed out to the rest of the spectators obviously you could see, and they all agreed and she agreed... funny thing is right after that i did a double turn over, no one even noticed..

later that evening a man came up to me and said, you know i always wondered if magicians were using two cards as one, but after you explained all that, i don't think that anymore


now that might not always work, but in that situation it was perfect

i would rather explain it away, then just walk away, or something to that effect, it basically proves they were right in a way and then it could ruin magic for the rest of the people for their remaining lives

Please don't get mad at the spectator and call the bullsh!t or whatever. That will only make you look like a tool who doesn't know how to handle situations in a good way. Just stay cool, look at them and then just tell them that they're "ruining it for everyone else, and besides you don't even have the correct method." Then just move on swiftly and hopefully they'll keep quiet. If they don't, THEN try to turn the audience against them and use some of the more aggressive methods.
