Probably the moment that had the most effect on me was simply seeing Uri Geller bend a spoon with his mind (at least that is what it looked like). I was in high school at the time. This had a profound influence on me. I just had to learn to do that. This was so different than magic with cards or coins. Now that I can bend spoons and forks, I rarely do. Uri's performance caused me to want to know more about magic beyond cards, especially 'mind magic.' Now you know the rest of the story...

That's a really cool story Harold, It's great to hear how one person can influence someone to try something different, and many people make a life out of it!

Oh, heavens. I haven't posted here in ages. Might as well.
My most influential moment was probably when I first performed Morgan Strebler's Liquid Metal for a crowd. I am a big fan of Morgan, as many of you know. I bought LM before I ever really performed magic for anyone besides close friends and family. After playing around with it long enough to be confident, I busted out the forks at a big get-together and blew people away. The simple power of confidence I gained from that day is what has kept me in magic as involved as I am to this day. People screamed and cheered. The wanted to see more. I had never seen my magic have that kind of effect. I have since learned how to create that kind of reaction, but it was that single performance that opened the door for me. Keep it real everyone. L

I like how it managed to open you up to a wider audience, which is very important when performing, especially if word about you begins to spread!

Congrats Lyle! I might just share my most influential moment!
When I first came to ExoMagic, I used to perform tricks to people in my house, usually straight after i learned them. So once I performed for a few friends at my school and i messed up a few tricks. You may ask how this is influential, well I find it influential because I realised that I do not practice a trick until I can do it, but to practice it until I can do it without fail. This experience was a real eye opener to me, and from this I learned more about showmanship, and this little failure has led me to become, in my opinion, better at magic than before.

That's right, practice until it becomes as natural as breathing. That way you can focus on the performance. I always practice all the conceivable ways that a trick can go wrong so that I can pull it off anyway.
Congratulations to all the winners! Merry Christmas!!! In my old age I don't care much about being politically correct. For the politicallly correct, here you go..... Best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most joyous traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, but with respect for the religious persuasion of others who choose to practice their own religion as well as those who choose not to practice a religion at all; Additionally, a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the generally accepted calendar year 2011, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions have helped make our society great, without regard to the race, creed, color, religious, or sexual preferences of the wishes. (Disclaimer: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others and no responsibility for any unintended emotional stress these greetings may bring to those not caught up in the holiday spirit.)

Alex-
I sense your prediction about many playing cards being given has come true. I wonder how many trees were chopped down just for the ones I received? Maybe misj got mistaken for the dummy he was making and cannot get to a computer. I'm waiting for the pictures.

Marry Christmas to you too... LOL
I saw this but I had no idea what to write about. Imagine me with a loss for words. True enough though... I really like stuff I can build and make myself and cards are not it. I went through my phase of making gaf cards and svengali decks. I am still working on the dummy - getting rather frustrated with it but it is coming along great. I still can't figure out the controls at the stick end of things. I got the jaw working and the bird moves up and down and swivels. I really miss you guys so I wish things would pick up around here. *Sniff* -misj- |
