Default Mathieu Bich

Here is a pretty neat effect from a great magician.

As soon as i saw that trick on the night that show aired I knew I had to get it. It is an incredibly easy trick and any card can really be named. I also loved the "no" kicker at the end, really great trick.

Does anyone know if the ITV series, 'Penn & Teller: Fool Us' is going to be released on DVD? I have good quality DIVX copies of the first 6 shows of the season but would love to have them on DVD.

P & T have gotten better at judging the acts and I appreciate the fact that they don't reveal too much about how the effects are done. P & T have a good grasp on the historical side of magic but seem to be a bit out of touch with some of the modern magicians. This effect by Mathieu Bich is an example of this. Being somewhat familiar with the work of Mathieu, it was fairly easy to visualize the technique.

On one of the shows, one of the magicians (I don't recall their name- I only watched the shows once so far) put his prediction in an envelope and used a knife to attach it to the table at the beginning of the effect. He proceeded to use two spectators, a lady from the audience and Jonathan Ross. He used a standard card force for the lady and she really believed that she had a complete free choice of cards. The force used on Jonathan Ross was great. I love doing a force with the cards face up, it just adds validity to it. This force reminded me of the way Ed Marlo would do things. Ed would know which card he wanted to force and depending on the actions of the spectator, he would adjust his technique. This effect shows how simple card forces can be turned into an effect that plays much bigger than the typical forced 'pick a card' routine.

I really enjoy watching other magicians perform even if I know how it is done. I'm always learning something to help out my magic, whether in technique or performance.

I'm sorry if this turned out to be a minor review of the P & T series but I just had to express my praise for the quality show from across the pond. You do need to check the show out.

Harold

Certainly here in the UK game shows or competitions such as the Xfactor, Britain's Got Talent and Penn and Teller: Fool Us do not get made into DVD's. As much as I would love it as it would be interesting to hear interviews from the performers and even Penn and Teller themselves about the tricks which were performed. I doubt that it will be made into a DVD set. But yet again there always is a chance that it will be.

I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with my DIVX files. I can make them into a DVD if necessary.
