Hey guys, I'm doing a presentation/performance of the psychology of deception. It's a show for laypeople, so tricks wise I'm doing a color changing deck routine, possibly "invisible thread" from helder. Any suggestions for topics/ effects I can do? I have a couple of topics, things like the slippery slope mentality, assumptions, the ideomotor response.

You could also do Helder Guimaraes' blank deck routine from Small Miracles. I honestly feel like that is the strongest effect on either of Helder's DVDs.

Austin-
Is this for a class? The team of Penn and Teller did a great article on the subject! So did Apollo Robinson, I recommend you look them up as they are a great read and would make a good handout for you. Look up change awareness as that is a subject you failed to mention! I'd also throw some cold reading into the mix! -misj- |

There are a number of simple routines that you could use that use repetition to train the audience. An example would be the simple transfer of a sponge ball from one hand to the other. Do this several times in a row and then retain it and you can show it vanished.

From a purely psych perspective I have always found this video interesting. Although short of just playing the video for your audience, perhaps as an intro to your talk, I'm not sure if you would be able to implement this or not.
