Default Mastermind Deck

Mastermind Deck by Chris Kenworthey, does anyone have any experience using one? Is it the same as a Monte Cristo deck?

Default Deck Structure

Harold

This is one deck that must be bought. It is basically 50 identical cards with 50 different pips at one end. There are 2 different court cards needed for the displays involved in the routine. The 50 "miss-pipped" cards are short cards. The basic idea is over 100 years old. apparently it is also sold as the Monte Cristo Deck

This was deduced from reading the discussion over at the Magic Cafe.

Hope this helps.

Note: The YOUTUBE videos make it plain that the spectator cannot turn over their selected card themselves. This is because the magi needs to cover the false pip.

Cheers

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff.

I think the original was marketed in either 1906 or 1909. The Monte Cristo deck has always been pricey and, on top of that, fairly difficult to come by. Since the Mastermind deck is currently available on Bicycle stock for under $30.00, that's not so bad. I'll give it a try.

Received my Mastermind deck yesterday. It appears to be on Bicycle stock and fans well. The only problem is that they are warped badly - so into the Porper Clip for a while. That should straighten the little suckers out.

I wonder if there is a Porper Clip made to put ornery kids into? Just a thought.

Default Question

Harold,

How did I go with my analysis of this deck? Was I on track?

Cheers

Jeff- You were right on the money. I may have to pick up a couple more so that when I have a series of shows, I'll be able to mix the cards up.

In reading the two routines that came with the deck I see a strong Theo Annemann influence.

According to their QA standards the cards are not defective. The warping could have occurred in the shipping via air mail. The Porper Clip will fix them in a few days. I bought the Porper Clip for this type of problem.

I recently acquired a Cardmaker Monte Cristo Deck. It is indeed the same principle as the Mastermind Deck with a minor difference. It has all 52 cards plus 2 Jokers. I'll leave it at that.
