Hello all,
My name is Mat Mullen and I am the owner and admin of a small magic blog called PhatusMagic. I have recently spoken with Alex Hess and will be doing some writing here for the exo blog.I have already published one article called "Elusionist?" and hope to have plenty more to come. I look forward to getting to know the community and hope some of you will enjoy my work.

On a personal note...
I am a 31 year old IT support guy/carpenter/mason/musician/snowboarder
My favorite soda flavor is beer flavored
I like heavy metal
I like Hip Hop
I like to cook
And I love magic

Well Hello!

You didn't tell us where you are and your sideboard in empty.

I ask because so many of you interests cross mine. You like BEER! Wahoo!
Although that one is kinda a given (heuristics!) ... Sorta like the ladies!
"I like my women like I like my Beer.... Cold, Stout & Bitter! LOL"

I like cooking and I'm an IT GUY. I initially had to buy Iron cookware because I'd burn up and ruin the cheap stuff when I wasn't paying attention. Oops!

I used to live for snowboarding although I can't afford it anymore as lift tickets went up and my income went down. I started snowboarding before they had bindings and we used dog leashes! Seriously! Which really says something when I am a 'handicapped' snowboarder.

I HATE HEAVY METAL & HIP HOP, as it makes me want to punch babies. But Hay! That is what headphones are for right?

What kind of magic do you like? What is your specialty?

I currently just bought my first home in Northern California (just outside Sacramento). I too have not snowboarded in some time as the tickets are ridiculous in price. Kirkwood is my home court, my wife gives me crap because I call it church hehe. Funny you mention the cookware as a while back got some steel ware and man that stuff rocks. I fought my wife tooth and nail on it but in the end I'm glad she convinced me. As for magic, the more visual, the better in my opinion. I am ok, with a deck of cards, however those are the ones I tend to screw up the most so I often tend to use gimmicked magic as kind of a crutch, however I hate the preparation involved with such as I always seem to get put on the spot un-prepared (you know, like hey, do that one where you move the seal on the dollar bill ), so still, nothing beats a deck of cards or some good old fashioned money magic. I love just about anything that has come out of the mind of Daniel Garcia and have even came up with a variation to Torn that allows you to keep all the pieces in view without going to the pockets. I also love bar tricks, though not really magic, are a great compliment to a trick to help keep your audience entertained and also turn some of the focus on them. I have also come up with a few original tricks that I can't wait to discuss and improve upon here with other members as well. Ill get to work on that sideboard

Used to worship metallica until the whole napster thing, now I can't even look at them nor will I capitalize their name.
Incubus (Though not really metal anymore, they had a good metal essence back in the day. Love S.C.I.E.N.C.E.)
Thin Lizzy (Not really metal to some but they pioneered the way for all modern metal, without them, there would have been no Iron Maiden)

The 808 is from the bicycle poker 808 decks

Not hard to figure out what's on my mind eh? My wife and I usually goto Hawaii every april and it looks like we won't make it this year for the first time in a long while Every time I see 808, I just have flashbacks of warm weather and beautiful sunsets. It's kind of our tuning fork.

Ill have to check some of these out. I have definitely heard some Atreyu on the satellite radio, those guys rule!
