Peter, Welcome. Feel free to comment on the posts.
Things are a little slow around here. I am primarily a magician with a few mentalist effects thrown in to my show.

Hi Alex and Harold, I don't mind slow Harold (I am a writer have all the time in the world) and Alex it would have to be a good old minced beef and onion, although I am partial to a steak now and then

Hi!
I see there is a few mentalists on here ![]() Glad to meet you all; Just had my work approved by Jermay and I have just signed a deal with Lybrary.com - your ebook store specializing in magic ebooks, gambling ebooks and games ebooks who are selling 'Dare to be BOLD' so things are going nicely. I am co-writing a massive book like a modern 13 steps, with brand new chapters, methods and routines. that include, (not in any order) Pre-show - (Information on how to create miracles for home recording, television and radio). How to script write and create effects - (How to combine principles and methods to create effects that look as clean LIVE as any tv edit). How to control crowds - (Dealing with hecklers and other information on ensuring you have full control of an audience). Utility switches - (Cheeky methods for switches of envelopes and business cards and one method involves a subject swapping an envelope for you without knowing!). Dual reality - (Explanations and routines for creating elegant miracles that are as close to mind reading as possible). Instant stooging - (Methodology and principles on how to make a subject a stooge, often without them knowing and also after they have verified they are no such thing). Two person telepathy routines for one man routines (Ways to send information to off stage helpers, crowd help and visa versa). Drawing duplications - (A full chapter dedicated to the cleanest drawing dupes, the subject never writes anything down just thinks it and you draw it!). Numbers and words - (Routines and principles for lots of add a number effects, including how to make the pads, calculator codes and self working add a number routines. Subjects think of names, numbers and you guess them cleanly and very hands off). Forces - (Psychological and physical, new invisible forces that happen under an audiences nose, prop free forces and all ultra fair!). Swami - (How to make the perfect swami gimmick for less than a £/$, when and where to use a swami, how to reverse swami, using swami as a aggregate and not a means to an effect and all the excuses you could dream off). Peeks-(Not tears, brand new methods of data extraction that are ultra fair and logical, how to get a peek of a billet in a subjects hands and where/when to peek even while surrounded). Modern memory feats - (Ways to make it appear as you have skills beyond Rainman's). Publicity stunts - (Stunts like predicting the lottery LIVE, headline predictions that are sent a month in advance and no gimmick envelopes to make just straight forward and hands off.) And much more! I really am going to try go above and beyond with this book, it will take a long time to write so will be some time next year but yeah I have made a start! |

Hi Peter!
It sounds like you have quite a lot on your plate! I'd love to see what you have in mind in more detail. Right now I am just learning and reading Gene Grants Phantini series of books. I love the classics, and trying to nail down the principles as you suggest. In yet another book, I saw a old idea where they basicly took a flashlight extended the wire so that it went from the hand up over the shoulder and was incorporated into the magi's jacket so that it remained hidden to the audience. They (a tag team of the mentalist and his assistant) had various codes using a single bulb to handle alot of differing situations. I was thinking of using multiple leds and incorporating the use of binary code with it. I thought it was rather intresting. Anyways... I hope you stick around I'd love to swap ideas with you. -misj- |

![]() I came across the light coding in the notes of a charlatan. Try using a little hand held led keyring and colour the tip in green permanent marker (so its not bright and will be seen by others), remove the key ring and thread it onto a bracelet so when your hands are held downward it will fall into your palm (ither wise it hides up your sleeve). Now all you have to do is push the button with your middle finger, the back of the palm hides the action and the helper is behind you so they can clearly see the flash in your palm. As little flashing you can do with the light the better, for example instead of flashing the light loads of times try this. If you was to force the king of hearts. (just a basic example) (they are going to build a card up slowly in your mind) State; 'I would like you to imagine two piles of cards a red pile (flash) and a black pile, think of a colour, the suits are club, heart (flash), spade and diamond. The card could be a picture card (flash) or a number if it is a picture, it could be jack, queen or king (flash) or if it is a number it could be ace right through to ten'. Using a very simple linguistic misdirection, the code is very well covered and all will definitely go unnoticed. I hate linguistic codes, there is a very, very clever one that utilizes the the ticking of a clock and another aspect of the body (1920s release) that I have rehashed to something I believe is one of the best two person codes I have ever seen. It gave me butterflies when I tested the method (and I never used a clock) It was so clean. I fried a group full of fellow mentalists (that know the original method). My advise (which you don't have to take as I am a nobody) so rather my opinion, when you perform as a mentalist, try to get around the problem of subject having to write things down and your effects will look ten times better. I try to think of new and interesting methods that involve them just thinking of an image, name or word and then I guess it cleanly. Also I have a pet hate: Center tears, Illogical rubbish that is taught on you tube by kids, no matter how many excuses you make for the move it really doesn't make sense and I have upset a lot of performers with my view. How long have you been a mentalist for? If anyone has any work that want me to look at or ideas, I will help in any way I can and give my opinions. ![]() P.s thank you all for being so friendly you all seem like really decent folk ! |

Peter-
I am a hypnotist and NLP guy who saw a HUGE opertunity to use and practice those skills in conjunction with magic and mentalism. As a "ARTIST" I love to build my own props (out of paper mache - LOL) but I find that as a performer, the mentalist stuff fits my skill set better. You and I already tend to think alike... The original code was rather long and verbose (where your stuff seems to follow the suggestion of a hypnotist's version of a embedded command! Very clean and easy. I love this stuff! I am having issues getting net time but maybe you will be enough incentive for me to get serious and fix it. LOL -misj- |
