Hello from Las Vegas

Hi everyone,

I suppose its fair to say that I've gotten a rather late jump into the world of magic. I am 29 years old and just now starting to look seriously at magic. Mostly as a way to entertain and amuse my children and friends, but who knows maybe some day with a lot of practice I may be confident enough to perform in more public settings...I hope anyway .

Anyway, I look forward to learing more about the art and reading about what all of you have to offer on these boards. From what have seen so far you all have a great wealth of information and hopfuly I will be able to make some small contribution in time.

Age - 29
Experience with magic and level of expertise - Very new
Favorite tricks - Sponge ball/ cups and balls/ card tricks
Other hobbies - online gaming/ mountain biking
Favorite animal - my dog I supose--black lab/boxer mix
Favorite pie flavor - cherry
Favorite soda - mt. dew

Welcome, Vegas is a great place to get into magic, a lot of magicians there, so you should be able to find people willing to help you. Not to mention I'm sure there are a few magic shops around!

Why the heck would you be into online gambling when you live in vegas?

I often wished I lived in Vegas for both it's easy access to gambling + magic / hypnosis shows.

Are flunky jobs pretty easy to come by or did the economy take a dive there too?

Thank you guys for the welcome. There definately are quite a few magic shops here I know of one thats only a few miles from our house. I will probably be checking t out this coming weekend.

Misjief- sorry for the confusion, by online gaming I didn't mean gambling. I meant online video games, shooters like counterstike and some RPGs like World of Warcraft; even though my work schedule has pretty much kept me away from playing entirely. The job market here is still pretty strong as long as your willing to get out there and take the minimum wage jobs. I've been fortunate though, I've been enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for the past 10 years (still on active duty) so I haven't needed to worry too much about looking for work .

Harold- How long to you typicaly stay when you come for your "pilgimage"? Maybe my wife and I could catch a show downtown with you while you are down here.

Is the housing and the like less then national average or more so?

Misjief- Why not come and live in Ireland? Our economy is sooo bad at the moment so house prices are quite low, yet again there is only one magic dshop in Ireland

Harold- Man, i want to go to Las Vegas sometime, maybe go see one of your shows Lol, let me know if your doing a show in the UK anytime soon and im sure i can go.

I hear that Penn & Teller are planning on doing another 'Fool Us, special with the filming to be done in the May timeframe. I don't think that I could raise the money by then to do my Svengali routine for them. Perhaps it will have to wait until December at the Rio.

I would love to visit the UK again. It has been a number of years since I saw many of my relatives there. My mother was born in the Chetenham, Glouscestershire area in the midlands.

I'd love to go to Ireland... But the whole point of moving is I am short of funds and starting over. I doubt I could hitch hike or take a bus to Ireland from the states.
