Do they have Walmart or Target stores in the U.K.? Elmer makes a nice rubber cement that i'm sure you can find in one of those stores...thats where I found mine.
Enjoy! ~Ryan

I have also been looking for rubber cement here in Japan to no avail....I have a feeling Walmart will be a long time in coming here. Stores sell a product which they refer to as paper cement but it is just not the same, if anyone ever comes across information of places that sell rubber cement here in Japan I deeply appreciate the information. Thanks.

I know the thread is old but my experience is fresh.
I'm in Denver at a convention and at the last minute I have been asked to open our presentation with an appropriate magic trick. Since the subject is 'Substance Abuse' I decided on the 'Torn And Restored Newspaper'. The problem is in the Denver Tech Center, here are very few stores within walking distance. I needed rubber cement for the gimmick. I did find a 7-11 store but there was no glue but Elmer's white glue. I did find a tire repair kit for $5.00 that had a small tube of rubber cement. This rubber cement contains a lot more solvent in it so it is watery and takes a while to dry (I let it set overnight- works fine now). I little expensive, but works in an emergency. .

A little off topic, but what Substance Abuse Conference were you at? I'd also be interested in your take on the "torn and restored newspaper" as it relates to SUD. Thanks doug |

I work for a non-profit organization that has several state and federal grants for various programs such as 'Domestic Violence Prevention', 'Suicide Prevention' and two adolescent 'Substance Abuse Treatment Programs.' Each of the grants require that the program director and program evaluator (that's me) attend annual meetings. We give reports, presentations and receive trainings.
I usually open our meetings and presentations with a couple of magic effects that I tie into the particular program. In this instance I opened with the 'Torn And Restored Newspaper.' I spoke about the community as a whole as I flip through the paper. I begin talking about how substance abuse begins to tear the community apart while tearing the paper into pieces. I explain that the youth that come into our program are like the torn up paper- useless and without much hope. At this point I talk about some of the unconventional things that we use in our treatment program. Our healing model is centered around the Native American Traditions with the Western Model around it. To stress the unconventional I talk about using duct tape to fix the newspaper. It really is not necessary to use the duct tape but it does make the point. I begin to talk about our successes as I flip open and restore the paper. I have done the same presentation for the Lt. Governor of Nebraska and the subcommittee that he heads up on Epidemiology. I just returned from my performances at the Rio in Las Vegas where I made a couple of presentations about 'Suicide Prevention.' From this it looks like I'll be off to Guam to do a similar presentation/seminar. At the end of April, I'm off to Aberdeen, South Dakota to do another presentation/seminar on one of our treatment programs. Magic has brought something special to our presentations and seminars. We are the ones that people remember.

If anybody still cares, I found out that spray-adhesive is just perfect. It even says on the back that you can spray it on two surfaces, let it dry, and then stick together. And it sticks as hell. Here's an image of what I got:
