Help me please.

Hi. i really can do with some help here. under which topic should i ask for help in improving my mentalism techniques. currently, i am only reading up. i can't practise intensively since i am undeergoing chemotherapy. but then magic really does interest me. so any ideas anyone? or do i have to prove my rep? how can i go about doing that?

Well, apparently here there is a BS ranking system based on your number of posts. There is a ecret forum called the 'Academy', which only takes 10 posts and a 7 days after your initial registration to have access. In my opinion, I think it is a horrible idea, but whatever, this isn'y my board. My advice is just keep posting with what yoy have to work with until you are able to gain access to the Academy.

haha. i know about the ranking system. its great though but problem is how am i going to clock the number of posts if i cant really find anything to comment on. like people putting up tricks for comment or something. or is there a section on this but i just cant find it?

The Academy protection system is there for one dang good reason - to keep prying eyes out. If someone is willing to come here and contribute, they are given access. If they are not, we keep them out. This keeps people who do not do magic out while allowing magicians easy access.


If you think you have a better way, we would love to hear it. We are far more likely to listen to someone with a good idea than to someone who is simply moaning and complaining about something they do not like. That goes for everything on these boards. Complaints are not really appreciated well unless accompanied with solutions or in the very least a well thought out idea. We are a community of growth and learning. Lets try to keep it that way.

To answer your question, you are well on your way already. Your post count is up to 4 as I write this. Yous posts count just about anywhere (Except the lounge, because there we mostly just shoot the breeze.) If you comment on a video you see, ask a question about a product, or anything else, you will get credit. Before long here, you will have level one access to the academy and you will be able to listen to the handful of elite mentalists lurking in their dark little room in the back. With time and practice you may even become one of them.

Regarding the ranking system, the only issue I have with it is the post count, membership days is understandable and I agree with that, but using a post count is simply going to make people post useless stuff just to get their count up, its the classic quantity vs. quality scenario. Unfortunately I can't think of anything (which isn't too complicated) to solve this right now, but if I do i'll mention it.

well there is a system of using the lvls we earn to give access to the academy, but it's weird and can't be figured out. lol. that's why we went back to the post system.

and yes dan it does cause useless posts.

The only fair way I can think of would be literally for the staff to hand-pick who gets access, but I'm sure the staff don't have the time for that.

Maybe there could be some sort of "recommendation system". Anyone that doesn't have access could have a "recommend" button under their name, and the people who currently do have access can click that button if they think this person deserves access, if they get say 5 recommendations they get access, Then perhaps the staff hand-pick the people who deserve access to the higher levels.

I don't know really... just some thoughts.

I hear you on the complaints about not having imediate access to the Academy section of the website. It's a bit annoying to be locked out of the only real area that certain threads belong.

HOWEVER! I think it's done for a good reason. As stated it keeps the prying eyes out, and helps make sure that those who really do the contributions get rewarded(all be it a tiny amount).

For now, I think your going to be fine posting in the Lounge. That seems to be the catch all for for topics. Once you build up enough posts you'll have access to the Academy, from there the Mentalism forum.

Just hang in there. What's your questions specifically maybe I can help you with something?

Magic has a prestige, integrity, and value. The more openly available a trick is, the less value it has. We understand the post count system is not the best solution, trust us, we've been dealing with the BS-posts for about a year now.

Know what we do? We look at new posts, and delete them if they don't meet our criteria. So far we've only been deleting a couple posts a week. We're working on a proper system that involves more then just posting.

7 days is nothing, 10 posts? Really? I understand you want access now, but please be patient. It's like ordering a good book from a store, you must be patient and await for it to arrive at your doorstep

---- As for the promotion system, we are trying.

We have a new ranking system that gives you points for doing specific tasks on the forums (giving our reputation, thanking people, completing your profile, longer posts, etc..). However we have ran into a glitch in the software, NONE of the promotions work. This means that when you reach x amount of points, no one gets promoted.

Big issue.. and the worst part about it is the developer is not supporting the software. So know, we are trying.

In my time in this community I have seen it mature and evolve to where it is today. I'm glad that it is a living community and is constantly changing.

There were times that it looked like the site was dying with no hope. But like a seed that is buried, it came back to greater life. This can only continue if we continue to share and work together. When the site started you could say it was a very selfish and self-centered community but it has changed into a community where people want to share and help others in the art of magic. We have a long way to go but remember we have also come a long way.

I think the structure of the Academy has helped in many ways for people and Exo.
It has prevented us from becoming an LMT.org
Instead of being a basic "click here for magic exposure" site it is a site were we can talk and discuss ideas and other gabbidy goo like said topic.
We don't EXPOSE but TEACH " LEARN, TEACH, EVOLVE"
The Staff are very good at keeping the place clean including ex-staff who are still with us today ( Alex, Sam, Lyle, Jacob, Brandon, Austin, Allen and everyone else who has helped.)

And some people say the system is stupid because people would just type regardless gobildy goop and get posts up. WRONG these posts are deleted and their post count goes down.
This is all my true opinion

also thanks to all the staff and members for keeping Exo smooth! Good Job guys
