Don't like this. All I can think of is people coming to this site and seeing the tricks taught badly. And would they be hidden, or could anybody see the tutorial, cause that would be exposure, and exposure is BAD.

As if there was no exposure here on the boards at all. This little bit more compared to the tons of vids here is a laugh..!
Actually I don't find the idea too bad, actually there are a few tricks with so easy secrets or so bad explainationvideos that guys could better save the time downloading. Actually this would lead to more discussion as well! Normally people don't discuss enough on the video-download sections! I'd like to see something like that being put up! |

Well, we don't want to be LMT style where just anybody can come on the site, look at it, and leave. If we are going to have a Written Out Tutorials Section, we should have a post count for that section as well, or it would be like LMT, and that's what we don't want.

Make them have an account, and make them also have a post count to view it. That way there is no leaking. That way, I can write tutorials for some ideas i've been having and I dont have to make a video.

I personally do better with a well written tutorial. Perhaps this is because I have to write instructions for people to use various software programs.
I always start with the assumption that the person knows nothing about the computer and software. A good tutorial should do the same thing. How many times have you watched a video tutorial where the person was great at doing the trick but terrible at explaining it because he assumed you were familiar with a particular move or something. I also think it depends on what you are trying to teach. The 'Stand-Up Monte' video tutorial from Penguin Magic is a good example of a tutorial that would be better written down. There are so many steps involved that it really helps having them written down.

This Academy is, essentially, our "Written Out Tutorials" section. It's much less limited than our system was when this topic was created.
But I agree, Harold. Write it so anyone could use it. Within reason, of course. If it's an effect that requires advanced sleights of hand, it should be safe to assume that the person already knows double lifts and the like.

I wonder if there is a tutorial outlining how one can use this forum to discuss various issues without fear of exposure to those who shouldn't read it. In particular, I noticed some of the content requires a minimum level of posts to access which is a very novel way of limiting access. Trouble is, I don't know how/where to apply this technique. Any advice? Sorry if this is a very simple question that would be better answered by reading the Stickies or FAQ of the board. If someone could point me to the information, I'm more than happy to use "Search" to find it ![]() Thanks n|trous |

UberProfessional Alex. Top marks
![]() And nlz, the videos are hidden, so there is no exposure there, but hidden tutorials would be fine! In fact, I tend to find videos + tutorials a better and more rounded way of learning, but I guess that's just fussy!
