Hoh-kay. I figured with the current design thread having all the different backs you guys have submitted, we should stop submitting and start deciding. But I think it's too early to jump into that right now. What's important is getting a general idea; so we are resorting to a poll.
I'm going to list all the current design "genres" (or themes, if you will) that we have, and you guys are going to vote on what THEME/GENRE you like best. There will be NO discussion on specific designs, we will save that for later. To cast your vote, simply state the genre name. If you do not see your preferred genre on the list, post "Other", and state what you would like to see be the genre of our cards. THE GENRES: -Abstract (Like the Tally-ho's or Smoke and Mirrors) -Picture backed (Like the Centurions or Guardians) -Logo (Like the Wynns) -Other (Please post your idea) This little voting session will end in two weeks from today, on November 10th, so choose quickly and wisely. //Important Note// For ease of counting the votes, you may only post ONCE in this topic. If you change your vote, please edit your post. Any user that has posted more than once will have his/her post(s) removed, save for the first one.

Combo of picture and abstract...I'm still backing 4 horsemen, but I guess I'm the only one now...

Abstract and/or logo. Picture cards always look cheesy, classless and cheap. Go to Walmart and buy Star Wars or Indiana Jones playing cards if you want pictures. They are never well suited for magic unless the picture is dumbed down into a complicated abstract version of the picture you started with. Take guardians. They wanted a big, photolike picture of an angel. When they couldn't do that without looking stupid, they made a complex abstract design, which still looks dumb up close. Good idea, not likely to ever work.

Note that the one post rule is no longer in effect, as the polling period is over.
Well, it seems like with all the input we had, the general consensus is to have an abstract card, possibly with a logo. I definitely think that we can make this work. Lyle/leydenk09 submitted an awesome design, go check it out if you get a chance. Any last thoughts on this?

Abstract/logo is the best, but only if you can disguise the logo in the abstractivity behind it

I prefer the geometric ones... which I think falls under "Abstract."
Which would mean my vote is for Abstract. (It might be easier if there were links here to examples of the different types... Otherwise, navigation can be a bit of a pain, what with the multiple pages of people's ideas... just a thought.) |

I know this post is a bit late, but I think it would be hard to top Smoke and Mirrors when it comes to a beautifully abstract back design. If we want to have signature exomagic cards I would say that the logo is the best choice.
I don't think that we need to have the dark, mysterious, ***********y look that so much of the card market is swamped with these days. Sometimes I would very much like to see a magician using Jerry's or Wynns. Plain, simple, and to the point. Dark abstract cards just remind me of twelve-year-olds making bad tutorials with their Shadow Master deck. |

I agree whole heartedly with Zalen. I know I'm new here but I think just different color versions of a wynn type card would be awesome, and even make a black deck of the same simple design for the people that would want a black deck. Maybe even go away from the red em logo and go with a white or cream color logo on some of the different colors of backs.
Maybe go red back white logo, red back black logo, maroon back cream logo, blue back red logo, red back blue logo, black back white logo, and even black back red logo. Just a suggestion I think it would be pretty cool to do it this way. |
