Yes! White cards! This actually will be best, just in case we want to sign them and stuff, or I want to make blank cards, or I want to do a deck color change.

Now we need to discuss theme...I personally do not feel like we should take the theory 11 course of action and base the decks on "warriors" or anything of the childish sort. Even though the Centurions and Guardians do look kinda cool, IMO its not the route we want to take...

I will come back to this thread later and post some ideas about what I think the design should be, the only problem is we have several hundred dedicated members and everyone will probably we thinking differently, so we're going to have to kind of compensate for everyone's thoughts.

Yeah, we do need themes. The list so far on suggested themes is:

-Leviathan deck
-Vintage/Gothic/Eldritch deck
-Demonic type of look
-USAnarchy's 4 horsemen:

  1. Anarchy Deck
  2. Apocalypse Deck
  3. Four Horsemen Deck
Granted, the idea is to instill some sort of mystic vibe or supernatural energy that is subliminally understood by your audience. The name of the deck is something that WILL be very important. If you like this theme and come up with a better name please post it in reference to this.

Now to get to the good stuff. Listed in bullets for ease of reading.
  • Deck Color: Either some sort of Blackish Green like the reversed Masters Deck Ace that was shown, or a tarot card-Esq bone or ivory color. (On second thought, this faded tarot card look might be kinda nice and ominous)
  • Joker - Picture of the Four Horsemen riding on horses toward you (kinda like shadow master joker design - old photo) (A good gaff would be either the name of a card being spelled out in the dust of the 4 horsemen, or on the ground they are about to trample)
  • Deck Suit Colors - Like a 4 color poker deck (Red/Black/Green/Blue (or White depending on the actual deck color))
    • White/Blue - Pestilence - Diamonds
    • Red - War - Hearts
    • Black - Famine - Clubs
    • Green - Death - Spades
      • These colors will all make more sense when you read about the 4 Horsemen shortly (see bottom)
        • Afterthought - Pale colors maybe?
  • Paint Cards - These would be based upon the 4 Horsemen (More Depth will be delved into when you read about the horsemen (See bottom)
    • Kings - The 4 Horsemen
    • Queens - Wifes of the 4 Horsemen (Should we call them the 4 Horsewomen of the Apocalypse?)
    • Jacks - Some demented offspring of the Horsemen and Women
  • Number Cards - These should be the same as normal cards, but with the updated colors
  • Aces - Why have just a specialized Ace of Spades Design? Why not tailor a larger Center Pip on each Ace with a montage or pay homage to the Horseman of that Suit? This would stand out from any other deck. It could be as simple as showing the 4 symbols of the Horsemen to a intricate horse and man integrated design.
    • Pestilence Symbol - A Bow with NO arrows and a Crown
    • War Symbol - A Sword
    • Famine - Scales
    • Death - Skull
  • Card Backs - This is the most important part of the card by far. This will be the make or break factor of web talk and community talk. Sure, having some killer gaff for this will be crucial as well, but the backs will define the cards. On this, I have 2 premises.
  1. If using the Tarot-Esq card style, then colors on the back would really be possible.
  2. If using the Blackish-green color then a really intricate design will be needed.
While i feel that #2 should be a factor in both, the idea is what should the design be, or be based on. Here are some factors or directions it could go
  • 4 Symbols of the Horsemen using some sort of celtic knot type of weave or style of backing.
  • Play off of the Generic Bike backs using a Horseman on a Horse instead of the angels on bikes (Death with Scythe? War with Sword? Famine with Scales? <-- i like the scales idea)
  • The small angels could be replaced with either all 4 horsemen or use death for each one (think grim reaper with scythe)
  • abstain from witchcraft or any symbols that are generally frowned upon. Got to keep the deck family friendly to a point.
  • Create a mirrored depiction of Armageddon. Should include the 4 Horsemen in battle.
This concludes my ideas for the deck design. I do have gaff Ideas that I am working on and will post im sure sometime tomorrow (today? what time is it?)

I Hope you like! PM me with any ideas, elaborations, why you like/dislike, or just post them here for all to read
================================================== =======
Four Horsemen Background Info for Creative Thinking and General Knowledge
================================================== =======

Pestilence - Rides a White horse which represents Victory; Pure Warfare. Carries a bow with no arrows which symbolizes a non-violent rise to power, wears a crown. - Some people incorrectly name this horseman as the Antichrist, when in reality its more likely to be Jesus Christ

War - Rides a Red horse which represents blood spilled on the battlefield. Carries a sword.

Famine - Rides a Black horse which represents Desolation. Carries scales. The bible quotes "a quart of wheat for a day's wages" when referring to famine.

Death - Rides a Pale (Pale Green) horse which represents the paleness of skin in death; decay. Death is followed by Hades (and/or the army of hades)
Oh, and we need to decide whether or not to use the Latin suits (Swords, staves, cups and coins/pentacles).
If we choose the four horsemen theme, I suggest we do.

So... What themes does everyone like? I'm taken to a mix between the Eldritch deck and the 4 horsemen. Any others?

[QUOTE=Cornman;30901]Probably more so than ever. What with the site being completely legal, we don't have to worry about any publicity this brings, from anyone. So yeah, I'd say that this is still on.

The site is legal, but we still want as few people to know about it as possible, for the sake of trying to stay underground, so I think we should still try to use a "middle" site like what we were planning on doing.

Well, we can decide on that later, but now a priority is to get a theme. Any input?

A mix between eldritch and 4 horsemen sounds good to me, Definately with latin suits. But I dont agree with the idea of a mirrorred apocalypse image for the backs, something with elegant and intricate patterns are, in my opinion, the way to go. It would make flourishes look cooler and it leaves open the possibility of making a marked deck.

Alright! Keep ideas coming!

MD~I agree, an "abstract" back design would be cool. Any others agree?

Don't like latin suits; it ruins many possibilities for tricks and nobody knows about them. But still keep 4 horsemen. Perhaps include the latin suits in the back design or box design/AS design?

REVIVAL!

Hmm, maybe have the latin suits in the corners? Like in the upper left and bottom right have swords and staves, and in the other corners have cups and scales. This keeps the deck symmetrical.

I personally think that for the overall theme, we should go with something like this:

-Four horsemen theme.
-A "trippy" back design, kind of like tally-ho's. (w/ or w/out latin suits in corners)
-Normal suits on face
-customized pips for EVERY ace, not just the spade. (Maybe incorporate the four horsemen in the pips?)
-white cards

That's all I have for now, except for 1 question. What colour should the back design be? A greyscale like T11? Full colour? Full colour sounds like it would look cheesy to me, but a greyscale doesn't open up very many possibilities

Grey and Red. Check out the Tragic Royaty bike's back scheme. http://penguinmagic.com/specialorderproduct.php?ID=9878 It will match the site well and gives a general dark theme without looking like 'every other card' out there. I don't want this exact back, but the colors would be ace.

Sounds like people are liking the 4 horsemen. We can probably say that we want it to look something like what USAnarchy describes. Does anyone have anything to add onto the design?

I'm liking Segatchek's idea, with red and gray for the back colours. Any other people who agree, or anyone with a different suggestion? I'm going to compile a list of what people like/dislike, so I need stuff to fill it with.

I was thinking of incorporating the latin suits into the back, as another element of design, kind of signifying going back to "the good ol' days". But yeah, not on the face of the cards. (I know I'm changing my opinion a lot. But people keep suggesting things that sound better and better.

I think we need to keep the back design very simple, beautiful, and elegant. Don't make a complex mess. Among the most beautiful cards I have seen are Wynns. Very Simple, deep colors, very professional looking.

As for the Four Horseman theme, what does that have to do with us? It sounds cool and all, but is seems to be grasped randomly out of the air. What connection here at Exomagic do we have to that? If we have something I don't know about, or are willing to make that connection, then so be it. Lets just make sure that these cards have significance to us.

Also - Minimum run size of 10,000 decks for any Custom run from the USPCC. Is there another place we planed on getting these made?
