Good advice. If you have a skeptic, they will catch you in the daytime. As soon as the toothpick happens, the gimmick is very visible. Wandering eyes become deadly to your reputation, so the precaution is best heeded. I got caught only once, doing it indoors.

I love this effect. Pulled it on some friends at work, dollar into vending machine, simple switch and pow!! They all hit the floor.
I have also had some luck with dipping the end of the tooth pick into food coloring and it just adds a bit of dynamics when you poke it in. The food coloring bleeds into the water. Just something I like to add. Throws a lot of people off because they think its part of the effect. More misdirection.
