What I hope will happen is that this will just turn out to be a piece of shit trashy TV show that looses out in the ratings. That is very, very unlikely though. Anytime magic exposure is involved in anything... it sort of lingers. I don't know guys. It's things like this that make me want to give magic up. I'm very disappointed with this. I guess if magic is to survive, magicians are going to have to go back into forming very tight secret circles where the secrets are very well kept. But that's unlikely. I don't know. Anyone game for a secret society of really good magicians that each specialize in their on genre of magic and never reveal to anyone that the society exists? We could call it the Ministry Of Magic (Harry Potter stole it... shit... we'll think of something else). We could have secret rings and secret meetings in secret buildings where we discuss the secrets to our miracles. And we could have a secret manual called the 'Miracle Workers Manifesto'. Sort of like an underground Magic Castle. By morning... we would be regular magicians. By night... we would be THE SOCIETY OF SECRETS! Haha no I'm just kidding. That would be a pretty cool thing though... bring back the secret in a world without secrets. Haha. But seriously... how cool would that be? Haha.

If you want this show to go down the toilet simply dont watch, it just how family guy got started again, so many people just watched it at a time, so thats why its running again.

Same with futurama, I hear that the movie was a test to see if the show would do well, and from what I hear the ratings were decent.

Now...if all of us who say we dont like this watch it, we're just sort of "supporting" it...

I dont know whos side you're on...the newbiez side or the real magicians side, but IMO anyone who takes E's side on this one is pretty small in my eyes. I only would purchase from E one thing...Loops, I made a couple deck purchases, but I will never buy from them again!

I too, am shamed at the fact i bought loops from E. I said this in another forum, but everyone's talking about the time, and energy they've put into magic. The people who are gonna get into this celecadabra B.S. wont do that, they'll just see it on T.V. and think, hmm, I can do that. So they buy it, practice it maybe once and off they go, showing people how crappy they, and ***********, really are. Our job from that point is to show people, whether its walk around, table magic, stage, or what have you, that the real, true magicians, the artists who have poured their hearts and souls into magic, are a cut above, really truely amazing at what they do. At that point celecadabra and Brad's homo eyeliner won't even cross your spectators minds, they'll be too busy thinking, holy crap, did I just see that?

Lol lets not do the whole 'side' thing to our own guys =). I'm pretty sure he meant 'I hope it's not going to be such a big disappointment (disappointment as in 'I hope they won't disappoint us by being morons and revealing everything that we do to get a buck of kids with rich parents)'. =) Lol I guess we'll just have to see how things go. Try and stay off what they do for awhile i guess... or if you really want to perform something that they've revealed then do it really really well and no one should realize. Try and put a gap between the execution and revelation phase and you should be fine if your execution was not too bad.

Haha just smile everyone! Everyone's getting all upset over a stupid 30 minute program that's going to get canceled in like a month. We probably should write an e-mail expressing our disapproval and hope that E grows a conscience (and that Brad grows some balls =P) and just leave it at that. Anyway... just stay happy everyone, we all joined magic to have a little fun so KEEP HAVING FUN

Ahaha, I dont know the guy, so its okay lol. No my bad then, I really understood. Just IMO, I really dont like this whole idea, and how a lot of people are following this. Of course everyone is new, that doesnt mean that they should act new and not ask questions. IMO the people who act new are the ones who dont ask questions.

Seriously, for me, I think that this is a good thing.

Why? Well... If you hear anyone say it's an amazing show, and the actors are good at magic, then you know that you prolly will have something from T11 or Penguin that's, like, 20 times better. Like DM's Irreversible. Just say something along the lines of "Oh, you saw the invisible deck trick? Yeah, that one uses a gimmick." As this is happening, hand out your cards for inspection (Keeping the top two cards in your pocket, or palmed. Take the cards back, say "So you see, it's better when it doesn't use a gimmick" and dive into the routine. If they ask how, tell them you did it by not doing what happened on the show, that you actually practiced for weeks, maybe months! (Though if it took you a couple months to master Irreversible... )

So.... I dunno.

As for the secret society thing, we're in one already. Exomagic, with closed registration!

I got this email from *********** this morning:

Dear friends,

I am so excited to be a part of *********** right now. We are in the
midst of forum change, much of it based on the three Great Debates that
so many of you participated in. Your input was so valuable in helping
us to make many of the decisions that we have made. One thing you made
clear was that you desired a little tighter moderation, especially
when it comes to threads or posts that just don't have anything to add to
the mix. We listened. A new set of Forum Rules are under construction
to replace the Forum Guidelines that we presently govern by.

Celebracadabra, the unique VH1 show, is almost upon us. This show will
bring many new and aspiring magicians in to the forums, and they will
be just like many of you were on day one...excited and a little scared
to contribute. I want to personally invite you to befriend these new
users, welcome them, answer questions, be patient, and generally show
them why you choose to be at ***********.

The 2nd edition Black Ghost deck is almost here, as is the UltraGaff
deck. If you know anything about Houchin and Garcia, then you know this
deck is going to be something special! I was incredibly lucky and
received an uncut sheet of these cards in the mail today...and they are
AWESOME!

Thanks for making my job something that I can really enjoy. I look
forward to working closely with all of you in the days to come.

Take care,

RJ

WHAT A WANKER.tighter moderation!?!? is he serious!!?!? Hmm...any ideas or suggestions how I should reply? I actually got along with RJ pretty well in the past, but now i can see that he actually really does support this entire ridiculous t.v show.

Sorry, The Pussycat Dolls and Hal Sparks doing magic on the T.V. isn't really cool in my opinion. They could have picked celebrities with better reputations, instead of a couple of hacks. but, to each his own.

That's my fear as well.

These "celebrities" are not going to become magicians, it's a contest for who can act the best. Just like all the other crappy reality shows out there, they are doing it to win, not to be better magicians.

As for the new rush of noob magicians that will be created. E wants them and doesn't care if they stay magicians or not.
Just look at the E forums. It's been around since 2002 and I challenge anyone to find a forum member from 2002 that is still there.
Of the members that joined in 2008, half will be gone in a year.

Why? Because the majority of members are young kids who think it's the greatest website in the world but when they see how much patience, practice and work it takes, they will quit.

It's bad for us magicians, good for Brad's bank account.
