Dollar Store 5 Contest

Alright everyone, we have a unique contest for you today. Get ready to put you thinking caps on.

You are to make an original close-up/street effect, using only what you can buy from a dollar store for $5. Thanks to the creative mind of Seeker for this one.

Object - Create the most astounding original close-up/street effect possible.

Rules - All materials (minus normal household items like glue, tape, scissors, etc) that are included in your trick must be purchased from a dollar store (or pound store for the UK, or equivalent elsewhere.) You have a $5 limit PERIOD. Any items used (including a deck of cards) not purchased from the dollar store will result in a disqualification.

Information - This must be filmed in an uncut sequence. Music or fancy editing not required, nor will it have any effect on the score. Camera work will only effect score if it ruins the view or if part of the trick happens outside of the frame. Web cam performances are acceptable. Live performances for real spectators, like always, will be given extra consideration, but will not be a main focus. The routine must be original. A copy of another trick will be DQed. Something very similar to another trick will be DQed.

Secret Item - The Receipt. This MUST appear in the uncut video, close enough and still enough to be able to read the receipt, for at least 5 seconds. We WILL be checking to make sure every item is on the receipt. If there is personal information on your receipt (We would highly recoment this anyway) black it out with a marker. This includes location, names, credit card numbers, etc. We don't want them, just the proof of purchase.

Makes me wish I had a dollar store near me... I think the closest one is a good thirty to forty five minute drive. I may see if I can poke my head in on this, but don't count on it. Good luck to everyone!

Can I spend more than $5 one time and use those materials as practice then another $5 for performance materials?

yea, you can practice. Make sure though, if at all possible, that you have 1 single $5 set on one receipt, and all of the practice materials on a separate receipt. We just need to see that you did not spend more than $5 on your performance.

As long as the gimmick created is used in an original way, not copying other people's effects, it should be okay.

Does the length of the trick matter?
If the trick is similar to another and it gets DQed, will we get a chance to enter something different?

Just don't make it so long that it is boring. Keep everything to the point.

If you get DQd, your entry will be removed. You will then be able to, if you have time, to resubmit. Try not to get DQed, we can't guarantee enough time for a 2nd try.

Yep, we won't count any sales tax. That would kill an entire item for anyone who has sales tax, but not for those who don't.
