I think the TZ issue may be something we have to live with initiall. If there's enough people to have a session during various TZs then it'll work itself out automagically, but if you put too much formalization into the process at the outset, you're likely to limit your participation across the board rather than increase it.
Recording the sessions is definitely the right thing to do. And while watching a recording isn't as good as a 1:1 session where you can ask questions, if the recordings are hosted in the academy, input can always be provided in post session Q&A and video responses could be done in Vimeo.
