Yes, some moves can't seem to get across in text. It's definitely much easier and faster to learn from videos. But I find that if I learn from a video, chances are I will do it exactly the same way as whoever it is I am learning from. In effect, I am a close of him/her. There is very little originality or creativity can can be mustered. Learning from books forces me to be imaginative, creative and basically just be myself. I might also find ways to do the same move differently if I learn it from books independently.
Also, most younger magicians now do not read magic books. Call it lazy if you will, but reading magic books takes up A LOT of time and effort, not to mention that it is must less entertaining too. If you make time to peruse over quality magic books, chances are you will learn many unique tricks that nobody has ever heard of. This will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd!
