I'd like to see a complex back design. If you don't mark the deck then you can let your spectators examine them afterwards, but I believe that the possibility of using a marking system should be in place even if most of us (myself included) don't use marked decks. We also have to consider all the aspects of what these cards will be used for. Flourish routines or magic involving flourishes looks better with fancy cards. And a complex back design is another layer of misdirection, your sleights will be hidden better if your audience is trying to figure out if the cards are marked or not.
